Purpose

  • the purpose of this module is for LEND trainees to gain insight into the challenges children with hearing loss experience in their self-esteem and self-advocacy and how audiologists can support families and their children in development of skills

Learning Objectives

  • trainees will gain understanding of:
    • Why self-esteem is “vulnerable” in children who are deaf or hard of hearing
    • How audiologist can support families in:
      • promoting self-esteem, self-efficacy, self-advocacy in their children
    • How audiologists can support:
      • development of self-advocacy for use of hearing technology and communication strategies across childhood
    • How audiologists can identify:
      • advocacy activities that impact children with hearing loss and their families
